Start Blogging in Blogger

Someone ask me to write about blogging. Although blogging in blogger actually self explained, and there’s a bunch blogging tutorial over the net, here’s my tutorial as a compliment for them which ask me.

First, I want to tell you reasons why you should choose blogger over the other, Wordpress for example. If you ask me, I’ve blogging since 2007 in Wordpress and Blogger, Live Journal, Live.com and Blog.com recently. So now, I choose blogger as my main blogging service because:

1. You can follow adsense program easily.

Now blogger offer adsense program automatically when you open a new blogger blog. You can choose follow this program or not. Why don’t we follow this program? It’s easy, free and give us a small amount of money if we lucky enough.

My 1 month adsense

In other blogging services like wordpress, blog.com, live.com etc, we can’t put our custom javascript. So if you just want to blog, share your ideas to others, I suggest to use wordpress, it’s easy to manage. Don’t use blog.com, because beside you can’t use your own script, they put their google adsense script in each of our blog. Very annoying.

2. Blogger indexed in light speed.

I notice that when I’m blogging in blogger, and then sending my blog to blog directory like blogcatalog, my blog rank in blogger much higher then in wordpress. I don’t know why. And it’s increase very fast when we add our posts regularly. Imagine this, my 3 months wordpress page still got rank 40, and my 1 month blogger page got 52. Amazing, although I don’t know what blog rank mean and how it affect or blog popularity, but naturally we will be very glad if our rank get higher.

3. There’s many free blogger theme availables

At 2007, I don’t like blogger because it’s limit of good templates. But now, as I can control blogger deeper, there’s many template available. It’s such as good as wordpress template. I’ll show you later where to get a good template for free.

4. With oflline writer, blogging in Blogger is easier then ever.

Blogger editing posts is the worst blog editing in my experience. But now there’s many offline blog writer such as Windows Live Writer, where we can write offline, and then post to any blogging services. With this, blogging experience is amazing.

Alright, that’s off topic. I want to tell you how to start blogging in blogger. So to cut everything short, here’s a video on how to make a new blog in blogger.

1. First, you should have had email address. If you don’t, try to use Gmail. In my opinion, Gmail is a good one (comparing with yahoo, I mean)

2. And then, go to www. blogger.com to sign up there.

So, now you have your own blog. There’s no limitation on how many blog you have, but for what?. Managing one or two blogs is easier than many of them, right?

So, here’s a little tip on how to chose font that match your design

Question: What is the Best Way to Choose or Mix and Match Fonts?

There are no absolutely right or wrong ways to choose fonts or mix different fonts in a design project. However, there are a few accepted standards that can speed up the font selection process and generally result in typographically attractive and readable compositions.

Answer: These guidelines won't always work for you, but nine times out of ten they'll give you the results you want with the least amount of trial and error. Use them when you're in a hurry or when you've hit a mental roadblock and need to jumpstart a design project.

Use Serif Text with Sans Serif Headline
When in doubt, pair a serif font for body text and a sans serif font for headlines.
This is not a rule. This is simply a good starting point for when you're stuck for ideas or can't seem to find the right mix. In most cases a serif plus a sans serif provides good contrast and doesn't overwhelm with too many fonts.

Use Contrasting Styles
Avoid mixing two very similar typefaces, such as two scripts or two sans serifs. There is not enough contrast and the small differences will cause a visual clash.
This is one reason that pairing a serif with a sans serif font works so well. There's generally good contrast.

Use Fewer Fonts
Limit the number of different typefaces used in a single document to no more than three or four.
With too many different fonts you run into problems with not having enough contrast between similar font styles plus a lack of consistency and even a feeling of choppiness because there are too many distractions. Using just one typeface can be better than two or three or four or more.

Use Proportional Fonts
Avoid monospaced typefaces for body copy. They draw too much attention to the individual letters distracting the reader from the message.
The best body copy fonts are the least distinctive. They generally have less extreme parts or unusual character shapes. This is one place where boring can be better. Use fonts with more distinctive characters in headlines and pull-quotes and other places where you want to grab attention and pull the reader into the story.

Have you ever bothered with the change of fonts when you save your Office 2007 Application in 2003 or lower version. The most annoying things is that we must redesign our own tables or pages when we change fonts. That’s, of course, consuming time, especially if we spend hours designing ours.

Microsoft has done some nice work on their new fonts. However, these fonts only come with Vista (and the Office 2007 programs). But what if you’re using Windows XP and Office 2003 and want to install these fonts? Well, you can’t get them easily using the standard things you’d think of, like going to the Microsoft site and downloading and installing them. That won’t work as Vista fonts can’t be installed on Windows XP (i.e. you can’t get a copy of a font installed on Vista, then install it on XP using the usual XP font installation methods).

What WILL work is downloading and installing the free file format conversion application—the program that allows Office 2003 users to view documents, presentations etc. created in Office 2007. That install the converters AND the new fonts!

Now, all you need to do is downloading Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats. Download and Install this package and your beloved font will be installed in your machine automatically.

With this compatibility pack, you can Open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations in the file formats new to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007.

Text Magician

Edit text files the easy way. Join or split files while adding, deleting or replacing text, change to upper or lower case, capitalise all words or the start of all lines, add text to the start or end of lines, remove leading or trailing spaces, add or remove blank lines, remove text blocks, alphabetise lines in file(s), split files at specified lines or text or into a specified number of files, works on multiple files and on files of unlimited size. I wrote this for my own use after I couldn't find a program to do what I wanted, it's extremely easy to use with a simple interface.

The Price Of Freedom

This is an EBook of my Father's War Diary, it is on-line from my home page but I thought that I'd also make it available for everyone to download. My father was in the British Royal Artillery and was taken prisoner by the Japanese after the fall of Singapore in February 1942. He was a P.O.W. for three and a half years in the infamous Changi P.O.W. camp and also on the "Death Railway" in Burma, while there he managed to keep a diary hidden from the Japanese, so this is his story which I think needs to be told.
